A Tribute to a Legend
Ed
Charon a
retired pastor who gained fame for ripping apart telephone books, died Sunday
after returning from Easter services. He was 71. In
September, Charon tore through 56 Portland white directories, each 1,006 pages
long, in three minutes, claiming a Guinness World Record for the fifth time. He
then retired from performing such feats for the record books. He'd taken up
tearing directories in 1998, at age 63, after seeing someone else do it on
television. He
had massive hands — a 16 1/2 ring size, about six sizes larger than a typical
man's. Charon
visited prisons in Oregon, Idaho, and other states to minister to inmates and to
spread the message that they could make positive changes in their lives. He
also spoke to high school students and at other venues, such as the county fair.
On a "Tonight" show appearance, the comedian Robin Williams dubbed
him "The Reverend Shredder."

Radar, the Belgian draft horse is a gentle giant. He’s also the world’s tallest living horse and he made a huge impression on people who came to see him this week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Last year Radar made it into the Guinness Book of Records with an impressive height of 19 hands, 3 1/2 inches tall, or 6 feet seven and a half inches (2.02m) from hoof to shoulder. The nine-year-old gelding’s height is even greater when you include Radar’s massive long neck and large head. He weights in a hefty 2,400 pounds (1059 kilos) and keeps in shape by consuming 18 pounds (8.1 kilos) of grain, 40 pounds (18.1 kilos) of hay and drinking 20 gallons (75 litres) of water every day. He also has a busy show schedule. Radar spends a good deal of time on the road travelling to events around the US. There was no word on what specialty items are outfitted in his horse trailer. But when you’re a world record holder and you outweigh everyone around you, Radar probably gets exactly what he wants. Video…Radar, the
world’s tallest horse, impresses visitors at a ranch Harley This!! California Man Builds World’s Tallest MotorcycleNo, this isn’t a Photoshopped image… it’s a real motorcycle. “The Monster” (aka “Dream Big”) is the brainchild of Stockton, California’s Greg Dunham, and it’s in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s tallest working motorcycle. At 11’, 3” tall, and 20’ 4” long, this 6500 pound monster needs a 502 cubic-inch engine (giving 500 horsepower) yoked to 2-speed transmission to make it move. And move it does—Dunham claims the big boy will rumble to a terminal velocity of 65 miles-per-hour, which must be make for one hell of an interesting sensation. By the builder’s reckoning, Dream Big cost big—around $300,000. The unique project took three years to conceive (it was completed in 2005), and can occasionally be seen at various car and bike events.
